The prompts sound really intriguing and ideas immediately popped into my head after reading them. Unfortunately I just learned about this and probably won't make the deadline (unless a miracle happens and my calendar frees up). But I'm excited for the upcoming issue in fall🍂

Not to worry! The creative prompts are quarterly and there will be another 2 rounds coming.

Perfect serendipity, am just now starting to weave together the elements of a place-memoir, a bricolage of stories, photographs and poems. This would be a perfect intro. Thanks for the opportunity…

Oh wow… I love these prompts! They relate directly to my photography practice (something I have been trying to write about as well). I’m excited to have found this posting and look forward to following along!

I don't know if this is the proper move but I'm just going to bump this here because I view my life through these prompts for the most part and have found the intense and undying inclination to ramble and chew the ears off of the gods whilst speaking to babbling brooks and silent winds

Hi. Really interested in writing to this prompt and have a photo essay in mind. Can you offer a little guidance as to what you expect the structure of a photo essay to look like.

Thanks.

Paul

Hi Paul, if you visit www.fieldfare.com/submissions there is more information there. Photo essays are introduced with a paragraph on how it relates to the theme or prompt. Beyond that, there is no specific structure but all of our print issues feature at least one photo essay so you could also refer to those.

This seems really cool! Is there a minimum word limit?

The info is on our submissions page on our website (www.fieldfarepress.com/submissions) but around 1000 words is good. It depends on the type of submission - for photo essays we normally include a couple of introductory paras but for written submissions we are looking for longer-form writing.

I’ve been on Substack for a week and you’re going to actually get me to write. I’ve been trying to write for a while- but I can’t pass this opportunity.

This is awesome! I've just started to write very short stories to publish in my notes, and it's such a joy to do this in the mornings.

How long should submitted entries be?

It's great to find this as I've been creating photo essays here and on my personal site. I focus on liminality as a core theme through expressive imagery and contemplative words.

I'll be keeping an eye for the writing prompts.
