It’s time for another round of creative prompts!
Before we get to the prompts, we just want to say how surprised and thrilled we were by the response to our first set back in February. That post is how so many of you found us here on Substack—and we’re so glad you did.
Fieldfare is a print journal that was born from our scroll fatigue and a need to create something tangible in a digital world. It’s for those seeking something more substantial – a longer, slower read, a deeper connection to the natural world, and a space for voices often overlooked by traditional publishing.
We’ve done our best to keep Fieldfare going, primarily through Instagram, simply because that’s where we could reach the most people. And we’ve found some fantastic creatives there. But it is a noisy place and subject to the whims of trends and popularity, and our efforts have often been lost to quickly expiring content.
Over the past 18 months, we’ve considered all kinds of pivots—including calling it quits. Moving over to Substack feels like a reawakening for us. So thank you for being here—for your enthusiasm, your shares and restacks, your patience while we learn the ins & outs of this platform, and for joining this community of people who are also trying to escape the algorithm!
As spring gets going, we’re looking for writing and photography that reflects the energy of the season. Think about what’s coming back to life, what’s shifting, or what’s grounding you right now. We want to see where spring takes you—and how it changes the way you see the world.
Send us your articles, essays, or photos inspired by the prompts below. We’re open to all kinds of voices and formats—whether you’re into travel, interiors, food, art, nature, or personal reflections, we’d love to see what you’ve been noticing.
Departure Point: Where does spring begin for you—and where does it lead?
Tell us about a place that comes alive in spring—whether it’s a pilgrimage to wildflower trails, a city reawakening with festival energy, or escaping to a hidden lake. We’re looking for stories and images that capture the thrill of lightening your bag and stepping into the unfamiliar.
Rooms with a View: Inside spaces shaped by the outside world.
We’re drawn to dwellings—boutique hotels, countryside retreats, cabins—that reflect their surroundings. What does it feel like to stay somewhere designed with local materials, light, and landscape in mind? Think open windows, thoughtful interiors, and that particular kind of stillness you sometimes find far away from home and the daily grind.
At the Spring Table: A taste of where you are.
From markets and wild herbs to dishes passed down through generations, we’re looking for stories that show how food expresses place. How does the season shape what we gather, cook, and share? Submissions might include recipes, culinary essays, or photo essays from kitchens and fields.
The Art of Reemergence: What does it mean to be seen again?
As exhibitions open, artists gather, and synergy builds, we’re interested in moments of creative reawakening. Share coverage of spring festivals, residencies, or shows—particularly those with a strong link to place or community. We welcome interviews, reviews, and photography.
Among the Blossoms and Birdsongs: Where does spring feel most alive to you?
We’re looking for nature writing and photography that captures the small (or big) ways spring makes itself known—blooming meadows, public gardens, shifting light, returning birds, or any moment that makes you pause and notice the world waking up again. Show us how the season is showing up where you are.
A Place That Changed You: Reflect on a journey that shifted your sense of self.
Sometimes a single place—whether discovered recently or returned to often—can offer a new way of seeing. We're looking for personal essays or photo essays that explore memory, identity, and belonging through place.
Submissions are open through June 30th.
You’ll find more details, including formatting guidelines and what we’re looking for, on our submissions page. Every piece you send helps shape this little corner of the creative world—and we can't wait to read (and see) what you’ve been working on.
You're doing quietly vital work. I love the authentic energy infused into it all.
This post sparks deep inspiration. I am in the midst of a powerful pivot, a paradigm shift that is akin to the experience of seeing HD video for the first time, after being raised on the old CRT television screens. Quiet awe, as one takes in the compelling immersive experience. A personal Renaissance, however belated, beckons playfully.
I will be submitting in response to this post. Thank you for the inspiration, and for your authentic presence.
